History of Times Publishing Group

History of Times Publishing GroupThroughout its history, Times Publishing Group has pursued a strategy of growth that has made the company one of the most reputable names in publishing, printing, distribution and retail in the Asia-Pacific.

We had our beginnings in 1968, as a pioneer of English language publishing in Singapore. In the early 1970s, we established ourselves in textbook publishing for Primary and Secondary school textbooks in Singapore and Malaysia. A bold move made by the group in 1980 saw the acquisition of the partwork publisher, Marshall Cavendish Ltd in the UK and its US subsidiary Marshall Cavendish Corporation.

We continue to expand our markets and our published languages. "Today we publish in thirteen languages and maintain a publishing presence in Europe, America and Asia." Our content has also expanded beyond education; General Interest, Home & Library Reference, and Business Information are added to our education genres.

Co-publishing ventures with foreign partners further enhance the diversity and reach of our publications. We participate in international book fairs in Frankfurt, London and around the world. By developing a worldwide distributorship for our products, we have secured many successes, such as the CultureShock! series in the US and UK, the extensive adoption of My Pals Are Here! series by schools as teaching materials, and the availability of Marshall Cavendish Reference and Marshall Cavendish Benchmark books both in print and digital format for the libraries of North America.

Our printing brand, Times Printers, has likewise attained international status with a highly integrated one-stop service that encompasses every stage of print production and even post-production, including finishing solutions, distribution and fulfillment. "Today, we have four printing plants in Asia and an international sales network established in key cities in US, UK and Australia."

Our presence in China since the 1990s has seen the establishment of a network of printing plants and sales offices in major cities that include Guangzhou and Shanxi, and ventured beyond book and magazine printing into packaging printing.

Our distribution brand, Pansing, represents major book and magazine publishers from the UK, USA, Australia and Southeast Asia, and is one of the leading distributors of English books and magazines in Singapore and Malaysia. We are also an established distributor of specialist books to libraries and universities in Singapore and, in collaboration with our subsidiaries, of DVDs and consumer electronic accessories in Australia.

In retail, Times bookstores has undergone a recent transformation of identity and theme to provide a new book purchasing experience for consumers. The bookshop chain currently hosts regular promotional and marketing activities such as author appearances, book signings and workshops in its vibrant redesigned outlets. These activities generate interest and awareness of our publishers' products, and create an environment conducive to book appreciation.

In travel retailing, we opened the largest bookshop at Singapore International Changi Airport in the year 2000, followed with a number of outlets in the precinct. Together with our partner, the acquisition of WH Smith chain in Singapore further has consolidated our presence in travel retailing.

Our latest online retail brand, NOQ store, was launched to provide a brand new shopping experience for the consumer. Stocked with millions of international titles, our digital store allows for refined searches to bring you closer to the books you want to read. Strategically located in Singapore, our Asian home-base means we serve you. Personally.
